Bewilderment

$15.00

Solo countertenor & electronics

Time: 6:40

Program Notes

"Bewilderment," composed by Declan Postlethwaite and performed by Hamish Gould, was commissioned by the Melbourne Composer's League in 2021. The piece explores the sensation of rediscovering nature with the innocent wonder of a child, but through the eyes of an adult. Born from the collective isolation experienced in 2020, it reflects on nature’s constant presence, offering moments of reconnection to the world outside—like the feeling of wind on your face or raindrops on your eyes. Through its evolving musical conversation, the piece contrasts the wide-eyed awe of rediscovery with nature's timeless, ever-present voice, creating a poignant and rejuvenating soundscape.

Special thanks to the Melbourne Composer's League and Hamish Gould
