“Seeds is a Swinburne University of Technology Graduate film from the class of 2019. Currently, in post-production, it is aiming to bring its unique blend of dance, drama and surrealism to the festival scene in 2020. Nelson has always felt more at home with flora than fauna. He receives a mixed response from his friends and family when he tells them that he wants to plant his feet and grow into nature. As Nelson and his body struggle to resist this calling, his friend and father struggle to come to terms with what they think is ‘unnatural’. Nelson faces a choice: stay in a world that stunts his growth or listens to his innermost feelings. The following clips from Seeds showcase the first two and last two scenes from the short film. At the start of the film, it is implied that Nel merely imagines his time with the tree, however, through the film we see the context of how he overcomes the opinions of others and leaves to become the tree he had always dreamed of being.

The composition process for "Someone Else" aimed to capture the complexity of love, particularly queer relationships. Inspired by "Marriage Story," the approach involved:

1. Understanding the Narrative: Deeply engaging with the film's story and characters to reflect their emotional journeys.

2. Collaborating with the Director. Ensuring the music aligns with the director's vision and enhances storytelling.

3. Theme Development: Creating central musical themes for characters and key relationships.

4. Balancing Complexity and Simplicity: Reflecting love's dual nature with intricate compositions and simple melodies.

5. Authentic Representation. Incorporating styles and influences which resonant with the LGBTQ+ community.

The result is a modern love story soundtrack that authentically represents queer relationships, balancing emotional depth with contemporary sounds.

Someone Else

How fortunate I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Your Eyes Go Cold - Short Film

'Your Eyes Go Cold' is a horror short film about Duncan Crawford, a mourning father who wants to forget about the tragic death of his daughter Alice. He retreats into his house to escape the constant reminders of the life he once lived. Duncan turns to alcohol to dull his pain, although it does little to help. But he soon finds himself being haunted by a doll that threatens to end his life.

Inspired by the song "Creepy Doll" by Jonathan Coulton, this student film aims to explore the concepts of guilt and the inevitability of death. View the full short film here.
